Obituary for Alice Phillips

MRS. ALICE YINGST PHILLIPS

Alice Yingst, daughter of John and Mary Yingst, was born near Hazel Dell on March 23, 1854, spent her early life in the vicinity of Rose Hill, and departed this life Monday evening, January 20, aged 81 years, 9 months, and 28 days. She was united in marriage to John L. Phillips of near Lis in September, 1884. She was the mother of ten children, three of whom preceded her in death. Those living children are; John Yingst of near Richmond, Indiana; Ed Phillips of Stark, Kansas; Mrs. Minnie Babbs, Charles and Howard Phillips of Newton; Harry Phillips of Frankfort, Indiana and Orie Phillips of Peoria; all of whom were present at the last rites. She also leaves thirty-five grand-children; six great grand-children; two step-daughters, Mrs. Viola Ball of Indianapolis and Mrs. Alice Thorpe of Peru, Indiana; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Stiff of Dundas, Mrs. Dolly Chapman of Kansas, Mrs. Phiana Warfel of Tolono, and Mrs. Jane Beard of St. Louis; two brothers, Richard Yingst of Pesotum, and James Yingst of Rose Hill. A loving wife, devoted mother and a kind neighbor, she will be missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held at the Markwell Funeral Home, Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the cemetery near her home. Rev. B.W. Tate of Bogota officiated.
