Obituary for David Allen Pierson

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, November 5, 1903—page 1, column 6:

David Allen Pierson, and [sic] old and respected citizen of Hendricks county, died at his home in Coatesville, Saturday afternoon at 3:20 o'clock of a complication of diseases. The funeral was Monday morning at the M.E. church in Coatesville, attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives. Interment was at the South cemetery in this city, conducted by the local G.A.R. Mr. Pierson was born in Putnam county Oct. 4, 1833. He removed to Hendricks county thirty five years ago, settling at Coatesville, which has since been his home. He was married to Sarah E. Ridpath in 1852 and to them were born six children, who with the widow survive—Mrs. Sherman Christy, Henry B. Pierson and Charles Pierson, of Danville; Milt Pierson, of Coatesville; Mrs. Ida M. Knight, of Cloverdale, and T.M. Pierson, of New York City. Mr. Pierson enlisted in February, 1864, in Co. B, 148th Indiana Vol. infantry, serving about one year. He was honorably discharge don account of physical disability. He was a devoted member of the M.E. church, having been a member forty five years.
