Carl Shirley, well known Pittsboro businessman, age 77, died, January 10, at his home after suffering a fatal heart attack.
A native of Boone County, he was born, Jan. 18, 1895, the son of the late Benjamin and Arminta Smith Shirley. On Aug. 20, 1916, he was married to the former Mary Etta Dillon.
He was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church. He owned and operated a garage and the Lumber Company in Pittsboro for many years and also did carpenter work.
Final rites were Saturday afternoon from the Gregory Funeral Home, Pittsboro with Elder Sherman Essex officiating. Burial was in the Lizton K of P Cemetery.
Survivors include three children, Ivan Shirley, Indianapolis; Vivian Klinger and Mary Evelyn Scott, both of Pittsboro; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Dillon, Pittsboro; Mrs. Margaret Nunnally, Lebanon; and Mrs. Beulah Baker, Sheridan; and one brother, Levi Shirley, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
