from the Hendricks County Republican (Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana)--issue of January 14, 1892--page 1, column 3
Almond Smoot, the oldest settler in Hendricks County, is dead. His home was in Brown township; He was born in Virginia in 1799, and in 1836 he removed to Indiana and settled on the farm where he remained until his death. He was a tanner by trade and he furnished leather to many of the oldest settlers.
