Obituary for Lovina (Beck) Stewart

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, February 19, 1903—page 1, column 5:

A SUDDEN CALL
Mrs. C.W. Stewart Dies Tuesday of Heart Disease

Mrs. Lovina Beck Stewart, wife of Charles W. Stewart, died suddenly Tuesday evening of heart disease. She was ill less than thirty minutes and was on the square within an hour preceding her death. The funeral will be tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. from the M.E. church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Smith, assisted by Rev. Lawson, of Indianapolis, and Rev. Sherill. Friends may view the remains at the house this afternoon from 2 to 5 and Friday morning from 9 to 11.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Pennsylvania April 7, 1831. She and Mr. Stewart were married Oct. 22, 1848, at Moscow, Ohio. They lived a year in Bracken county, Kentucky, then returning to Ohio and in 1853 located near Brownsburg, this county. In 1858 they moved to the Lawson farm north of Danville and in 1861 to the southern part of the county where they lived until 1878, when they came to Danville. Her husband and six children survive—Mrs. Alice Pike, Harvey T. Stewart, John Stewart, Nora, Joan and Elsie Pierce. There are fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stewart was one of the good women of the community, a veritable mother to all who came within the circle of her friendship. She was a consistent member of the Methodist church. In the family circle, she was the center of the home and during the dark days of the civil war when her husband was at the front, she cared for her little ones at a sacrifice that she did not count. Her end is peace.
