JOHN THARP DIES THURSDAY; FUNERAL OCT. 7

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, October 7, at the Leon Hall chapel, Plainfield, for John Tharp, age 57, of Plainfield who died Thursday evening, October 5, at the Methodist hospital following an illness which kept him in the hospital for 20 weeks.

Rev. Duane Thistlewaite of the Plainfield Methodist church, and Rev. Kenneth F. Anderson of Plainfield Baptist church officiated at the funeral service. Mrs. Hall played selections of hymns on the organ. Burial was in Spring Hill cemetery, Cartersburg.

Mr. Tharp is survived by the widow, Mrs. Minnie Tharp; a brother, Harry Tharp; a niece, Mrs. Myron Thomas; and nephew, Jack Tharp. He was the son of Jesse L. and Mary F. Hooten Tharp, now deceased. He was born on a farm south of Danville where he lived many years. He attended Central Normal College, Danville. In 1921 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie Grose Moore of Plainfield. Two years later they came to Plainfield which continued to be their home from that time.

Mr. Tharp was with the former Quaker Oil Company of Plainfield for 12 years. Later he was in partnership with Frank Hadley in a grocery store in the Masonic building, Plainfield. Mr. Tharp, following selling of the grocery business, was again with the Quaker Oil Company. In July 1938 he and Mrs. Tharp went to Washington Barracks at Indiana Boy’s School, in charge of Company Four, where he remained until stricken with illness. Mr. Tharp became 57 years of age one day before he passed away.
