Jesse Thompson died Friday afternoon in his seventy-fourth year after a long illness. He was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, Oct. 7, 1826 and moved to Danville with his parents in 1838. Here he had since lived and was respected by all who knew him. Oct. 2, 1849 he was married to Rebeckah McPheeters who survives him. In the war for the Union he was for three years a brave soldier in Co. C, 63rd regiment. To Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were born eleven children, two dying in infancy, nine surviving—Arthur G., Cyrus L., Samuel L., Lawrence, Nathan, William, Miss Jessie, Mrs. Fred E. Warner and Miss Anna. His was the first death in his family for thirty-one years. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Masonic order and the G.A.R. The latter organization officiated at the funeral Sunday from his late home, the services being conducted by Rev. Prather, Mr. Thompson having been a regular member of the Regular Presbyterian church. The six sons were the pallbearers and Co. K., I.N.G. attended the service. The remains were laid to rest in the east cemetery.
