Obituary for William J. "Bill" Phillips

William J. (Bill) Phillips, age 85, vice-president of the Phillips Motors Sales of Plainfield, died September 20, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He founded the firm in 1934 when he moved to Plainfield from Indianapolis. He had been active in the business until just a few weeks ago.

A former tractor salesman for the Fouts Motor Company in Indianapolis, he was also a Ford salesman prior to moving to Plainfield. He is the last survivor of 14 brothers and sisters.

Final rites were Saturday morning from the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, with burial in the Maple Hill Cemetery, there.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Clairmonde Phillips; a son, Ed Phillips, president of the Phillips firm; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Franklin, Indianapolis; Mrs. Betty Creedon, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and Mrs. Mary Ann Railsback, Newtonville, Mass.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
