Obituary for Lucile Tinder

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, September 1, 1910—pages 1, column 6:

DRANK OIL
Little Daughter of Oscar Tinder Dies from Drinking Kerosene

Lucile, sixteen-months-old child of Oscar Tinder, southwest of town drank kerosene Tuesday afternoon and died within two hours.

Mrs. Tinder, the mother, had the child at her father's, Martin Stevenson's and the little one was toddling about. Under a stove was perhaps a quart of oil, used for starting fires. The child found the cup and evidently thought it contained water and drank much of the oil. Its cries brought the mother who instantly saw what was the trouble. Immediately the child was brought to Dr. Barker's office in Danville but it had convulsions by the time they arrived. The poisonous effects of the oil had spread all through its system and despite all that could be done, the little life passed away shortly before six o'clock.

This was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Tinder, an elder one having also died. They certainly have the sympathy of many friends. The funeral was yesterday afternoon from Mill Creek church.
