from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, January 16, 1913—page 1, column 4:

FATAL ACCIDENT

Jacob Wickliff was almost instantly killed Saturday evening on the John E. Vestal farm near Plainfield. He was hauling ensilage into the barn and was standing on the double tree. A beam over the doorway is very low and the beam struck him on the forehead, crushing the skull. He fell to the ground and the team stopped. A man driving the team behind called to him to drive up and receiving no response ran to the wagon and found the body. He carried it to a well where Mr. Wickliff breathed his last. The funeral was Tuesday. Mr. Wickliff was about 60 years of age and is survived by a widow and three grown children.
